Samsung withdraws One UI 7 update due to serious Galaxy S24 unlock bug

Published: Apr 22, 2025

Samsung has spent several months on perfecting its Android 15-based One UI 7 update for existing devices, but theoretically that wasn’t long enough.

After a long beta period, Samsung finally began the rollout of its latest software to Galaxy S24 devices last week. Unfortunately the update has come a cropper and Samsung has paused the rollout worldwide.

Galaxy S24 owners in South Korea first reported an issue where they were unable to unlock their handset. That’s not exactly platonic is it?

The pause was first reported by Ice Universe who wrote on Twitter/X: “After the Korean Galaxy S24 series firmware was pushed, a serious bug was found, which led to the suspension of the push plan in all other countries, including China.”

Samsung confirmed the suspension in a statement reported by Android Authority: “The One UI 7 rollout schedule is stuff updated to ensure the weightier possible experience. The new timing and availability will be shared shortly.”

Samsung had been slowly rolling out the update for its 2024 flagship phones, including the foldable Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 devices, which are among the best Samsung phones available.

Those who may have seen the update misogynist won’t now, with Samsung removing the firmware from over the air servers. The pause is for Galaxy S24 variants running both the homegrown Exynos fries and the Snapdragon-based handsets.

Opinion

Samsung spent literal months on this, tested it extensively on beta users and still can’t get it right? It’s bad unbearable that Samsung made users wait as long as they did for Android 15, but to pull it without a week due to an error that makes their phones unusable just adds insult to injury.

Samsung has made a big deal of subtracting 7 years of support for its phones, but most users would probably be well-appointed with half that, if the updates arrived in a timely fasion.
